Jamaican Olympic Games Upsets: 4x100m Men's Rip Olympic World Record

Jamaican Olympic Games Upsets: 4x100m Men's Team Rip Olympic World Record

Thank Goddess!

The Jamaican 4x100 men's team not only passed the baton safely throughout but they attained the goal they set themselves! They blasted the previous US 1992 Olympic world record of 37.40, running a blistering 37.10.

What's truly SWEET??? Asafa Powell got his Gold after his awesome anchor leg in this 4x100-meter sprint.

Bless you and THANK YOU, Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell!!!!

And Bless you, THANK YOU, Jamaican 4x100m girls!!! We share your disappointment and know you'll bring it home next time!

Jamaican Olympic Games Upsets: Veronica Campbell-Brown, Kerron Stewart Brilliantly Win 1-3 Women's 200m Sprint

Jamaican Olympic Games Upsets: Veronica Campbell-Brown, Kerron Stewart Win Women's 200m Sprint Gold and Bronze

Hi,

Thanks again to our yam and dasheen-fed Jamaican sprinters!

Veronica Campbell ran a disciplined, focused race to brilliantly defend her 200meter Gold medal in 21.74. GREATTTTTTTT job Veronica, AWESOME RUN!!!

Kerron Stewart also ran a hard race in to take the Bronze. I'm positive that if she did not also run the 100m (to bag the silver medal), she would have come in second in this 200m women's sprint! But no matter! We are thrilled at her outstanding performance!

Here's the vid (in chinese), in case you missed it... ;-)

Now off to watch the 4x100m relays. Jamaica going for Gold in both the women's and men's!!!

Jamaican Olympic Games Upsets: Melaine Walker 400meter Women's Hurdles Gold World Record

Jamaican Olympic Games Upsets: Melaine Walker 400meter Women's Hurdles Gold World Record

Hello again!

AFTER Usain Bolt's 200meter Olympic Gold record and the playing of Happy Birthday to you to celebrate his 22nd birthday tomorrow, MORE excitement!!!! MORE Olympic Games upsets!!! ;-)

The 400-meter women's hurdles was scheduled right after the 200-meter men's sprint so Melaine Walker ran RIGHT after Usain Bolt's 200meter Gold record run!

Melaine won Jamaica a second GOLDDDDDD, back to back!!! Melaine ran a tight race, kept her energy reserved in the first 100m and picked up the pace at the third to last hurdle to signal she was there to win.

Coming up to the last hurdle and in the home stretch, she unleashed to break the Olympic record at 52.64.

Congrats to American Sheena Tosta who earned the silver medal in 53.70sec and Britain's Tasha Danvers who ran her personal best of 53.84sec to take the bronze medal.

TWO Jamaican Gold wins back to back!!!

Mercy!!!! EXCITEMENT!!!! ;-)

THANK YOU, Melaine Walker!!! Jamaica and ALL JAMAICANS everywhere THANK YOU!!!

Jamaican Olympic Games Upset: Usain Bolt 200meter World Record Birthday Present

Jamaican Olympic Games Upsets: Usain Bolt 200meter World Record Birthday Present

Hi,

Usain Bolt just gave himself the best birthday present ever!

Not intent on just winning the Gold medal at the Beijing Olympic Games 2008, he watched the clock as he pummelled down the track. It was the first time in all his qualifying and final runs that we actually saw him running full out.

When he realised he'd broken the 200m world record he slowed just a bit before crossing the finish line. Final world record: 19.30

I just found a vid but don't know how long it will be up:

THANK YOU, Usain from all Jamaicans everywhere!!! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you tomorrow!!!!

Olympic Games Upsets: Fastest Women Jamaican 100-Meter Clean Sweep - US Protest Rejected

Olympic Games Upsets: 3 Jamaican Fastest Women 100m Clean Sweep At 2008 Beijing Olympics

Hi,

I woke at about 2:00am this morning and went back to sleep just before dawn, so I missed the women's 100m Olympic Games excitement!

Then without having seen the race myself I tuned into the discussion of the race results being questioned by the US on Jamaican television.

The race was shown again and at first it looked to me like it was a clear 1-2-3 until I saw the slow motion end.

Anyway, although the protest kept the girls from enjoying the award ceremony immediately, it has all been settled...

Shelly-Ann Fraser came in first with her 10.78 run. Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart tied with 10.98, verified or taken down to the thousandth of a second.

I saw the Jamaican Fastest Women - 100m Clean Sweep at Bird Nest Stadium, 2008 Beijing Olympics HuffPost thread (I have retitled it), read the comments then posted my own:

There are two countries that have a long established history of winning in the Olympic Game sprints: Jamaica and the USA.

Now it is much more of a level playing field with better doping tests. Jamaica will continue to excel once there is a level playing field.

The results now being produced with the new strategy of training our athletes IN Jamaica BY Jamaican coaches makes these wins especially sweet as we always used to hear the foreign sports broadcasters say 'yes, they're Jamaican but they're trained in ..... by .......

Congratulations, girls. We're looking for the same Gold results in the 200m and the relays!!!

Tobias in his August, 2008 message, spoke of the Olympic Games upsets that were to unfold...

Hearty congratulations to ALLLLL worldwide athletes competing in the Beijing Olympics. You are all winners to make your country's team and you make every one of us fellow human beings proud.

Also, you are carrying the 'warrior' energy of excellence and FREEEEEEDOM into China on behalf of the entire world. This will massively transform life in China within the very near future and for that, we give you massive thanks and ringing applause, 3D and otherwise... ;-)

Jamaican Olympic Games Upset: Usain Bolt Wins 100m Gold at Beijing Olympics in Bird Nest Stadium

Jamaican Olympic Games Upset: Usain Bolt Wins 100m Gold at Beijing Olympics in Bird Nest Stadium

Wow!!!

Jamaica just won its FIRST 100m Men's sprint!

Usain Bolt, 21, world record holder, broke his own world record, broke the Olympic record and won his first Olympic Gold medal.

Here was my first Tweet after watching the race:

FIRSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT JAMAICAN to win Olympic Gold 100m 9.69 @ beijing olympics! we've waited 32 yearsssss!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS, Usain! Asafa Powell, Congrats, you almost made bronze and don't stress please! We know you were recently injured and not 100%!!! Michael Frater, congratzzz for breaking 10 for the 100m, we are proudddd of you!!! At 9.97, you're now the fourth FASTEST Jamaican 100m sprinter!

The Caribbean fielded SIX finalists in the 100m, with THREE from Jamaica. Jamaicans trained in Jamaica BY Jamaican coaches. YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

WE LOVE YOU!!! JAMAICA is PROUD, ECSTATIC, and EXCITED about the 200m Gold and the 4x100m GOLD next week!!!!

Congrats also to Richard Thompson, Trinidad & Tobago and Walter Dix, USA!

Lightning Bolt Usain, continue to have fun!!! AWESOME RUN! 9.69 joggingggg!!!! ;-) We still have NO clue what you CAN run but who cares??? You're 21!!! HAVE FUN!!! Take your ice baths, REST tomorrow and HAVE FUN!!! ;-)

Tomorrow, we're watching our Jamaican women!!! Go GIRLSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!

NUFFFFFFFF EXCITMEMENTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!

Update: Life ALWAYS provides when there's a need. When I re-read the above post, I couldn't dream of making it sound more coherent.... the gratitude and excitement is just too much!!! PLUS I'm wondering if my two pre-teens are still alive: they're doing their black belt grading now, 6+ longgggg hours. And I'm not allowed to be there, spy from atop a tree or nearest rooftop or anything....

So was I HAPPY when I noticed Dr. Mani's tweet with a New York Times Usain Bolt 100m Olympic Gold piece with GREAT slides of the race! THANK YOU, Dr. Mani!

I can now let go the guilt of not having the video or more pics to share and fully take up the mother-type worrying about my soon-to-be black belt chick-a-dees... ;-)

Jamaican Olympic Games Upsets Around the Corner?

Jamaican Olympic Games Upsets Around the Corner?

Hi,

I've been meaning to blog a bit about Jamaican chances to contribute to the Olympic Games upsets that happen every four years. I'm predicting that there will be a lotttt of upsets next month! All in line with the current shifting in the world balance of power that's going on now.

Here in Jamaica we currently have two main contenders for the 100m and one for the 200m sprint. Hubby tells me that there are also high hopes for a return to former Olympic relay greatness next month.

I'm hoping Asafa can get it together to claim his Olympic Gold next month since he probably won't be in the runnings in 2012. Usain may only run in the 200m but if he runs the 100m and Osafa doesn't step up, Usain will be right there to take it.

Let us start off with the recent Usain Bolt awesome run. Note that Usain Bolt, 21, is the current world record holder. Here you can see him doing 9.72 in New York recently where he ran against US 100m contender, Tyson Gay:

What Olympic Games upsets do you predict?
