Hurricane Sandy 2012 In Jamaica, Caribbean and On Her Way To the US

28 October 2012 No Comment

I’ve been offline for most of the past week due to dear Hurricane Sandy’s passing right through Jamaica.

Here’s a video from EuroNews describing some of what was happening as Sandy bore down on Jamaica and Cuba:

Our immediate community lost power very early.   Then water which stayed on during Sandy’s passing up until about 4:00 the next morning, went by the time I woke from a short nap at about 7:00am.

As CNN reported:

CNN affiliate TVJ reported a man was killed when he was hit by a boulder sent tumbling downhill by the storm’s rain.

TV J said 70% of the island was without power.

More than 1,000 people went to shelters, the Office of Disaster Preparedness said.

A curfew was in effect until Thursday morning, according to the Jamaican Office of Information.

Hurricane Sandy rolled over Jamaica on Wednesday, bringing 80-mph wind and torrents of rain to the island, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

The storm made landfall near Kingston about 3 p.m. ET, the center said. The storm was expected to bring rainfall amounts between 6 and 12 inches.

As of 8 p.m., the eye of the storm was between Jamaica and Cuba. Sandy was headed north at 14 mph (22 kph) and its strongest sustained winds had increased in speed to 85 mph (135 kph).

The forecast map shows Sandy reaching eastern Cuba by early Thursday before heading to the Bahamas. Tropical storm and hurricane warnings are up across the region.

That includes Florida’s east coast, where a tropical storm warning is in effect from Ocean Reef to Sebastian Inlet.

The light came back late Friday and water, late yesterday, Saturday.  Thank Goddess!   I’m a fish, so being without water flowing through the pipes and going low in the big barrel storage is not my idea of … Heaven On Earth!
The second land line I use to telephone overseas that is also part of the internet and cable package didn’t come back until late yesterday.   And was sporadic for quite some time.
So I’m back online this morning.   And look forward to as normal a week as a crazy girl like me can create!

In terms of damage from Sandy’s passing here in Jamaica – We did lose one elderly Jamaican man during the hurricane and there has been untold damage to our soon-to-be-harvested coffee since Sandy passed right through our Blue Mountain range.

Cash crops such as banana were also devastated and we’ll have to wait at least nine months for new banana planting to bear new fruit. This also affects our banana chip industry, so we’ll probably have to import bananas to fulfill production needs until our own production is back up.

Damage assessment is ongoing although the rural areas still have roads and fallen trees and power lines to be cleared before assessors can get the full picture.

I have to check for the details but I gather there was much damage in Haiti and the Bahamas and I presume Cuba also. And there were about 60 deaths in total.

Now we’re watching as Sandy draws closer to the US. The waves have been crashing against different sections of the eastern shore even yesterday, Saturday.

I asked Sandy to minimize damage to life and property while she was approaching and passing through Jamaica and I now make the same request for the US and that restoration proceeds quickly in Jamaica and all affected countries.

Although she is only a level one hurricane, Sandy is slow, steady and focused. And she is a huge system. As we say here in Jamaica, ‘she likkle but she tallawah’ (she’s little but strong and powerful). 😉

Don’t take Sandy for granted if you’re anywhere in her path! At the height of her passing, with the winds howling and swirling powerfully all around our home, I broke out in spontaneous toning to help release and clear some of the energy.

If you’re anywhere that she’ll be passing nearby or through, and you feel that you have to release some of the pent-up energy that you may feel wash over you from her, make noise.

It releases energy quickly and will help her move by more quickly too. 😉

Stay safe and let’s join hearts and hands as we also request assistance from our Angel and other Cosmic Friends across the veil to render special assistance wherever needed.

Bless You and talk to you soon again,
