How To Write – Holly Lisle’s Create A World Clinic – The Step-By-Step System to Fast, Simple Worldbuilding for ALL Genres
I’ve been on a fiction writing exploration journey since about April/May of last year. I’ve always known I would write books… from as early as ten or eleven…but it’s something I’ve also always put off.
Even more recently, after publishing a few non-fiction pieces a few years ago and when some of my internet marketing colleagues started experimenting with fiction writing, I still put it off so as to complete a few projects first.
Maybe another time I’ll write about what happened between then and now to bring me to this point where over the weekend I was able to clearly answer in my own heart and to my satisfaction at last, a question suggested by a friend of mine very early last year.
She said “whatever you choose to focus on, make sure it’s something that you can do for at least ten years (so that you reap the full benefits of doing it).”
The length of the time commitment was the main point, hence the brackets for the rest.
And on Sunday, I realised that of the two things I was weighing to focus on primarily, I could only imagine spending ten years with one – fiction writing.
Because it’s new and fresh… apart from completing NaNo last November, I’ve never written much fiction before.
Because it’s exciting – there is SOOOO much I don’t know.. so MUCH to LEARN!!!
Because self publishing is hottt and profitable and fulfilling compared to the soul-draining experience so many great authors have endured via traditional publishing.
I can write for the rest of this lifetime and not be bored. There are endless ideas and topics and themes and explorations on how to twist these all together.
The kewl thing is that after writing fiction bubbled up into my awareness as being my next step last April/May, Life also supplied me with my right writing teacher.
I’m not even sure how I came across Holly Lisle’s website for the first time. But when I found her and went through just a bit of the many writing resources she shares gratis on her site, I knew I’d found my writing teacher soul mate.
I’ll probably write more about what happened since then to now, as I said earlier, but for now, I’m excited to share her latest short course or Clinic. She wrote about five of them prior to this last one, most of which I already have.
My intention was to complete her ‘How To write A Series’ course and her Plot, Character, Page Turning Scenes Clinics.
But as I mull which series idea to write first, I keep feeling like I want to play with building the world for the series, and then focus on plotting and creating the characters as I go through the other courses.
Then Holly announced the release of her LONGGGGG-awaited ‘Create A World Clinic: The Step-By-Step System to Fast, Simple Worldbuilding for ALL Genres’!!!
Talk about synchronicity!!! Life is SOOOOOOO good!!! 😉
So here’s a VERY impromptu hangout that Holly did to practice with new software during which she answered questions on her new short course, the Create A World Clinic.
Enjoy… the questions start at the 10:55 minute mark. Prior to that it was just a bit of feeling out of the hangout and coming up with a quick solution for the chat not showing up on Holly’s screen. By the 10:55 point she was reading an email a participant sent with the copy/paste of the chat. 😉
Holly’s world building course ‘Create A World Clinic: The Step-By-Step System to Fast, Simple Worldbuilding for ALL Genres’ can be found here.
Ok, I’m off.
I’ve been studying plot twists on the ‘Dallas’ marathon on and off today.
And today was also a major ‘start’ day all round for shows I like to watch. New seasons of two fav loves of mine, ‘The Voice’ and ‘Blacklist’ start tonight.
Today also marked the debut of Joy Reid‘s brand new ‘The Reid Report’. I’ve been dying for MSNBC to give Joy her own show, so Yayyyy!!!! 😉
Take careth of you,
